Footnotes
1 Iâve always assumed they are bridesmaids on their way to an unusually large wedding.
2 Coming in first is more important than maximizing your winnings, because the first-place finisher keeps their whole winnings and plays again on the next show, while the second-place finisher goes home with $2,000.
UNDERCUT
A MIND GAMEâOR, FOR REAL EXPERTS, A MINDLESS ONE
Undercut is the perfect game for a family road trip. All you need are your hands, your wits, and an opponent you enjoy infuriating. When I first taught Undercut to 11- and 12-year-olds, they loved it, not least because they thrashed me every time. I came home licking my wounds and challenged my wife to a match of redemption. Then, after I undercut her three times in a row, she fixed me with a glare and extracted a promise that weâd never, ever play again. Anyway, with this game now banned in my household, I offer it as a gift to yours.
